ABOUT BLACK CAT CARPETS

In 1957, my father Douglas W. Tyler, Jr. began working out of his Connecticut home to provide top notch carpet installation, repair, and cleaning to our tri-state area. By the early 1960's, that business had expanded beyond the four walls of his residence to become Tyler Carpet, Inc., located at 14 E. Main Street in North Canaan. A staple of the community, it quickly became the premier destination for decorators, contractors, and homeowners to source usual and unusual floorcoverings from carpet and area rugs, to vinyl, ceramic, and hardwood.

I was one of four children – all boys – and started in the family business as a carpet installer at only 13 years old, working weekends and summers until graduation. In 1975, I signed on full time, selling floor-coverings and managing the store. Five years later, I simultaneously created my first cleaning company. In 1993, my older brother Tony and I purchased Tyler Carpet, which we operated together from then on. By the time we sold it in 2005, the company had been in business for nearly fifty years.

Three years later, Black Cat Carpet, LLC, was born, bringing state of the art equipment to local homes and businesses to meticulously clean carpet, upholstery, tile and grout. Black Cat Carpet will pick up your handmade area rugs and transport them to our rug “spa" for a thorough cleaning, including pet urine removal. We also specialize in repairing, reweaving, dying, and wrapping rugs for short or long term storage.
